For those of you who don’t know us, here’s a little bit of background to our story.
We met back in 1998, on a blind date arranged by friends! The most memorable part of the evening was when Ade gallantly offered to pay for the meal we had just had, and then asked me if he could have £1 back as he hadn’t got enough to pay his ironing lady who was coming the next day!!
However, there must have been a spark there, because we met up again, and again, and again……and then in 2007, he eventually made an honest woman of me!
Two weeks after returning from honeymoon, Ade had a hospital appointment to get the results of a CT Scan, which had been taken to determine whether he had kidney stones. This is the point that changed our lives. We were told that, in fact, he had kidney cancer. There was an 11cm tumour growing on his left kidney, and there was already evidence of secondary tumours in his lymph nodes, liver and lungs. We were numb with shock.
The next couple of months passed in a blur of tears, apprehension, operations, recuperation and fear for the future. Talk about taking the vow ‘in sickness and in health’ to the limits!!
